Mexico Riviera Maya ( Mayan Riviera) day 7

Day 7, our last day at the beautiful resort of Catalonia Yucatan

I just noticed my toes are in the shot ...

love this picture

the bar by the beach

We saw at least 4 iguanas that day... They seem highly abundant in Mexico, kinda like squirrels in Toronto

found a coconut by the beach

Mexico Riviera Maya ( Mayan Riviera) day 6

On day 6 we went on a snorkeling trip with Nolitours

There were quite a few sea turtles     at the turtle reef where we snorkeled. We invested in an underwater camera bag and decided to experiment it on my camera. It worked fine... in the sense that my camera didn't get wet at all. Unfortunately the image quality is not very commendable as you can see

cenote / natural cave
The water here is drinkable.
Not that I actually drank any.

"stalagmites"

We got back to our resort in the afternoon. This is the view from my room, not facing the ocean but still quite nice.

An anonymous masterpiece: sand replica of Chichen Itza

tehehe

I have back dimples

Mexico Riviera Maya ( Mayan Riviera) day 5

On Day 5, we ventured into a different part of Mexico
The resort organizes a variety of excursions/tours, such as swimming with the dolphins, adventure in the Mexican jungles, snorkling etc. The most popular of all is, of course, the Chichen Itza tour. The tours are not part of the resort package so an extra fee is required (although not cheap, not crazy expensive either). Unfortunately as with most bus tours, I felt that it was too rushed and a lot of time was spent on the bus traveling to and back from our destination. Overall, I'd still say money well spent. Afterall, how could one come to Mayan Riviera and not pay a visit to the Mayan pyramids

Sinkhole, a.k.a. Sacret Cenote at Chichen Itza
Basically a large, naturally formed hole filled with a pool of water . You can dive and swim here but you must not be wearing any chemical (such as sunscreen) that may contaminate the water.

Chichen Itza!!
This is a pyramid built by the Mayan civilization. According to our tour guide, it is "pregnant" with another smaller pyramid inside.

If you are particularly interested in Mayan culture (and you have an extra $2000 burning a hole in your wallet ), there's a nice tour package by Gap Adventures: http://www.gapadventures.com/trips/mayan-adventure/CAM/2011/

La Iglesia

sigh you girls are so tall I look short

The "plates" are Mayan calendars.
There are A LOT of souvenir vendors in the area competing for your Canadian / US dollars. Good bargaining skills will serve you well.

Skulls represent good luck in Mexican culture

Mexico Riviera Maya ( Mayan Riviera) day 4

Day 4 in Mexico

Frankly I am getting sick of blogging about my Mexico vacation, but then I don't want to leave it disturbingly incomplete having only blogged about 3 days of the trip... I'm pushing myself to finish the rest. Enjoy!

One of my favourite pictures from the trip.
Thanks for taking this Christine

Stalking the people playing beach volleyball..

We had dinner at an Italian restaurant on the resort

No more school yay cheers XD

more alcohol
actually one of them is diet coke lol

at the resort's gift shop

I bought myself 2 key chains at the gift shop. Cute no?
The quality of those key chains are pretty disappointing though. One cracked the next day, and the "Riviera Maya" print comes off really easily... Sigh.

Went to a dance show at the resort. This one is supposed to be Chicago.

Mexican transvestite dancer
nice abs lol...

Mexico Riviera Maya ( Mayan Riviera) day 3

Day 3, woot

healthy (by my standards at least) buffet breakfast
I ate A LOT while I was on vacation, pretty much this amount x 3 meals per day, plus dessert and snacks, but I tried to eat less carbs, so didn't gain much weight

I miss laying on these beach chairs so much

drinking and eating by the beach

Mexican life guards

sailing was so much fun!!
gonna look into options for sailing in Toronto in the summer

dropped by the lounge with live music in the evening

interesting jeans eh (he's actually one of the photographers who works at the resort )

Some photographer at the resort took this -_-ll
Yup that's a real tucan. It tried to attack me...

You can also take pictures with parrots, iguanas, etc, or just professional portraits. Pictures taken by the photographers are available for purchace for 3 days

Mexico Riviera Maya ( Mayan Riviera) day 2

Day 2 in Mexico: another day of relaxing by the breach

the towel in our hotel room. cute

isn't this view heavenly?

Went to a Japanese restaurant at the resort called Mikado. Had to line up for half an hour to get in, got at least 5 mosquito bites from standing outside the restaurant

teppanyaki

Had fried icecream for dessert. Yum!

You don't wanna know what we were laughing about.

Mexico Riviera Maya ( Mayan Riviera) day 1
HOLA AMIGOS
I AM BACK FROM MEXICO!!!

As my graduation trip, I went to the Catalonia Yucatán Beach Resort at Riviera Maya for a week. It was the awesomest bestest vacation ever!! The temperature was perfect (about 20-25 °C during the day) with just the right amount of sunshine. The weather forecast actually predicted chances of shower on a couple of the days but luckily, it never rained. The view of the ocean from the resort was magnificent, the food was great, and the staff at the resort were friendly and welcoming. I was super reluctant to come back to Toronto.

Here are some pictures from day 1 of the trip

We flew with Air Transat from Toronto's Pearson International Airport to Cancun International Airport. The flight was about 4 hours, and then we took a bus for about an hour and a half to Yucatan Catalonia, which is not bad at all except our flight was at 6 AM. I think I got about 2 hours of sleep that day...

taken from the plane
i love being above the clouds

another plane heading for cancun

food
seems ok but was not good -_-ll

arriving at Cancun Airport

we arrived at our resort & changed into our bikinis

omg the ocean!!!

taking a walk down the beach

had dinner at a mexican restaurant at the resort. yup that's a margarita
the lighting in the restaurant was kinda dim so I didn't take any decent pictures of the food ... but i do remember that it was very very salty.

the restaurant provides sombreros that you can wear during dinner lol
more pictures coming up!
